Ingalls to build small surface Navy ships
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV)- Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula has been tapped by the U.S. Navy to build the next generation of small surface combatant ships.
These new small ships will take inspiration from the design of the Coast Guard’s legend-class national security cutters.
This news comes as Ingalls continues to build three different class ships for the Navy while also modernizing the Zumwalt-class destroyers.
Huntington Ingalls Industries has also invested more than one billion dollars into the Pascagoula shipyard to support the next generation of building.
In a statement reacting to the news, Huntington CEO Chris Kastner celebrated the continued partnership with the Navy and its impacts in South Mississippi and expressed his confidence in Coast shipbuilders to get the work done in a successful manner.
