Ingalls Shipbuilding suspends vaccination deadline
Mississippi Gulf Coast-based Ingalls Shipbuilding has suspended its vaccination mandate.
CEO Mike Petters released a letter to his employees confirming that their contracts, except for specific ones, do not include a requirement to implement the mandate.
Prior to the suspension, about 20 percent of the company’s 11,500 Pascagoula-based employees would face termination on January 4th, the deadline for federal contractors to be fully vaccinated.
Petters says “we have not wanted to lose a single employee to the virus or to the effect of the mandate.” Ingalls employee Justin Bryant said, “Everybody definitely seems pretty up ticked today. Everybody seems to be more joking and laughing and more upbeat. We do need to continue to hold the line and continue to stick with our beliefs.”
Petters also says in the letter that the company will continue to urge vaccinations for its employees.
