Ingalls raises 20K in 5K on the Causeway

Ingalls Shipbuilding raised $20,000 for Special Olympics of Mississippi at the company’s seventh annual ‘5K on the Causeway.’

The race was held Saturday on Singing River Island. More than 900 runners registered for the 2018 race. This year’s top male and female shipbuilders were Adam and Amanda Whitaker, a married couple who have worked at Ingalls for a combined 25 years of service. The overall winner was Josh Pittman of Ocean Springs.

Each 5K winner received a medal hand designed by Special Olympic athletes.

The race concluded with live music, free food provided by local vendors and kids activities all on Singing River Island.

Ingalls vice president of human resources and administration said in the past seven years they’ve raised close to $80,000.
