Ingalls makes donation to Back Bay Mission

This morning, Ingalls Shipbuilding made a special donation to Back Bay Mission by donating nearly 3,000 pairs of socks and a monetary gift to the organization.

Ingalls Shipbuilding Veterans Employee Resource Group spent weeks collecting socks at the shipyard. They selected Back Bay Mission to be the recipient of the sock donation due to their effort in strengthening our fellow neighbors.

The group also presented Back Bay Mission with a check for $2,500. Back Bay Mission Executive Director James Pennington said, “Socks are one of the first things that people experiencing homelessness ask for. We are really grateful because it is really important, especially this time of year, especially when we have cold snaps that people’s feet are warm and dry, that people have a place to stay and a place to warm up.”

In anticipation of dangerous cold weather conditions, Back Bay will have a cold weather shelter open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Kenny Fournier Multipurpose Center on Automall Parkway in D’Iberville.
