Ingalls Delivers Ship to Navy
The U.S. Navy now owns Ingalls Shipbuilding’s 10th amphibious transport, the John P. Murtha.
Today in Pascagoula, the John P. Murtha LPD 26 was signed off and handed over to the United States Navy. Ingalls has been building this boat for more than four years.
The ship is named in honor of the late John P. Murtha who represented Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district from 1974 to 2010.
Captain Kevin Parker tells News he’s been to many shipyards around the world but there is something special about the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The John P. Murtha is a 25,000 ton vessel designed to carry Marines to the beach.
