Ingalls 5K on the Causeway

The seventh annual Ingalls 5K on the Causeway brought out some heavy competition all while shining a light on a worthy cause.

Nearly 500 people participated in the race this year to benefit South Mississippi Special Olympics. Ingalls presented Special Olympics Mississippi with a $20,000 check from proceeds raised in this 5K.

Many Special Olympics athletes ran in the race or came out to support and some were even recognized for their medals and accomplishments.

Ingalls chose a 5K seven years ago as their fundraiser because it incorporates the community in addition to health and wellness.  Ingalls Vice President of Human Resources and Administration Edmond Hughes said, “We want individuals focused on fitness and those things you can control regarding fitness and exercise is one of those, but when you look at it from a community standpoint, I mean, we have many community partners that get involved and come out and help. We just think promoting health and wellness and the participation of the Special Olympics is extremely important.”

Participating runners came from all over South Mississippi and Alabama as well as members of the Air Force from Keesler.
