Indicted for second-degree murder

The Hancock County grand jury has indicted former Long Beach Police Officer Cassie Barker for second-degree murder in the death of her three-year-old daughter last year.
Barker was originally charged with manslaughter in the death of her daughter Cheyenne Hyer, but today the grand jury chose to upgrade those charges to second-degree murder.
On September 30th 2016, Hancock County deputies found an unresponsive child in the backseat of a police cruiser. It was later reported that Barker left Cheyenne in the car for around five hours after she fell asleep inside a co-worker’s home.
