Increase in Scams and Car Thefts in Biloxi

A recent increase in car thefts and jury duty scams has Biloxi police urging residents and tourists to be more alert.
The increases in scams have involved missing jury duty, overpayment for services, or winning lottery tickets. Police say people have received calls saying to cash in checks or buy prepaid cards to pay back law enforcement for missed service. Then after people do, they never hear back from these callers.
There has also been an increase in car thefts in the past few weeks. Lt. Christopher De Back said, “some of them have been because some people have left their cars unlocked, some victims say they thought they locked their car using their little key fob but sometimes electronics fail, so we ask the public to make sure they lock their car no matter where you park.”
Biloxi police say if you believe to be a victim of any scam, take down as much information as possible and report it to your local police.
