Incoming Gautier Mayor’s Plans
Incoming Gautier Mayor “Phil Torjusen” says the city needs to increase revenue to bolster city services.
Torjusen told the Mississippi press the city has struggled since Singing River Mall closed in 2013 and Wal-Mart pulled out of a plan to redevelop the property.
Tourjusen says the city needs to work with the developer of the mall to use an ongoing study in order to recruit tenants that fit Gautier’s residents.
The real estate agent and former developer says more money would let the city increase pay for police and firefighters and provide more youth programs.
Torjusen beat incumbent Mayor Gordon Gollott in the republican primary and faces no general election opposition.
He’ll be sworn in July first.
