Inaugural Girls Flag Football season kicks off in South Mississippi

After months of preparation, the first-ever MHSAA girls flag football season kicked off on Thursday in Picayune!

Each of the five Coast teams participating this year had the chance to play for the first victories in their respective programs’ histories, with games taking place across three hours at Picayune Memorial High School’s Lee-Triplett Stadium and practice field.

The first hour of games featured a Coast vs. Coast matchup, as East Central defeated Vancleave by a score of 8-0.

St. Martin and George County both showing off strong offenses in their games. The Yellowjackets reigned victorious over Meridian 28-0, while the Rebels took down Richland, with that final score being 37-0.

In the third and final hour of games, Picayune faced Perry Central in what was the ultimate defensive matchup. The teams ended regulation still tied at 0, and neither team was able to score on four plays in the first two overtimes. Both teams fought to have the most yardage on a single play in the fourth overtime, and the Maroon Tide ultimately finished on top to be credited with the victory.
