Inaugural Biloxi Public School Autism Awareness Month poster contest

The inaugural Biloxi Public School Autism Awareness Month Poster Contest awarded two students per age group in pre-K through 12th grade at the Biloxi Visitors Center today.

Some teachers asked their students to create an autism awareness poster as an assignment then entered their artwork into the competition.

The organizers were expecting 10 entries of awareness art and received over 500 posters from Biloxi school students.

Students learned inclusion and acceptance of all people no matter their differences. Special Education Director for Biloxi Schools April Rice said, “It’s very uplifting to see this. We work hard as a school district for inclusive practices within our schools and to see how our students embrace individuals with autism, the beauty in these pictures and how they view their peers with autism, it’s just been breathtaking.”

The art will be displayed inside the Biloxi Visitor’s Center until May 13th.
