Inaugural awards ceremony for Biloxi Fire Department

In honor of their hard work, dedication, and putting their lives on the line, the Biloxi Fire Department held their inaugural awards ceremony this evening.
Awards stemming from training to recognition and appreciation plus more were given out tonight to members of the Biloxi fire and police department, AMR, flight rescue, surrounding fire departments and members of the clergy and community.
The highlight of tonight’s ceremony was the recognition of those who were there during the tragic Biloxi train-charter bus accident that happened in March 2017. Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said, “Simply because it was such a large scale incident and we wanted to take the opportunity to not only thank the firefighters that worked and risked their lives, but also a lot of the agencies that came and assisted us. Over 7,000 times a year they jump on them trucks and go out and mitigate people’s emergencies and I’m very proud of that they do it very professionally. They’re very brave and they’re compassionate about it.”
One citizen in particular, John Kemp, was recognized. The man pulled his car over to help assist with the accident and evacuate the elderly from the bus.
Over one hundred awards were given out in tonight’s ceremony.
