Improvements on the table after Forest Heights Levee hearing
Discussions to curb flooding in one Gulfport subdivision are moving forward now.
A community meeting was held last night to update Forest Heights neighborhood residents on the proposals by the City of Gulfport and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Improvements could reduce the risk of flooding in that particular neighborhood. David Newell with the Mobile Army Corps of Engineers said, “This project is part of the Mississippi Coastal Improvements Program. In 2021, we received funding to execute the design phase. The design includes a levee around the Forest Heights community. It’s essentially raising the levee around two feet around the community. The meeting is about our design, the product we’re putting together. Making sure we understand the impact that design may have on people who live in or around the levee to make sure we have all that considered as we move towards that final design.”
