Improvements to Ocean Springs Harbor Complete
After months of construction and some push back to start, the Ocean Springs harbor master says the inconvenience was well worth it.
Fishermen were not happy when the city closed the road and boat launches in late September for repairs, but now the $936,000 project is done and the feedback has been positive.
New amenities include renovations to the boat launches and piers as well as a lighted sidewalk for pedestrians and bikes. Probably the most popular is the separate roadway behind the boat launches so cars passing through don’t get tied up by those putting their boats in and out of the water. “They’ve improved the harbor, the functionality of it by probably 95 percent. The boat ramps are longer, the piers are longer. We’ve got the road going in front of the boat ramp now that’s really eased up the traffic,” said Harbor Master Danny Jalanivich.
Other than a few needed fixes to the pavement, the harbor project is complete.
