Improvements Made to Local Intersections
After a fatal accident last week at the intersection of Highway 53 and Canal Road, MDOT is taking action to improve the safety of Highway 53.
Intersection improvements and traffic lights will be installed at the intersections of Highway 53 and County Farm Road as well as the intersection of 53 and Canal Road.
While the project has been in the works for years now, the improvements will provide much needed relief for a high speed, two lane road.
“We will be doing some intersection improvements will be widening the highway 53 shoulders we’ll be putting in some turn lanes and safety islands and we will be signalizing both of the intersections.”
Construction will begin this week at the County Farm Road intersection.
Expect some delays on Highway 53. Local residents tell News 25 they welcome the improvements to make both intersections safer for drivers.
