Improved drainage on Dedeaux Road

Many residents and businesses along Dedeaux Road were on guard as Tropical Storm Cindy dumped rain across South Mississippi.
Last spring, torrential rains flooded many homes and businesses along the creek that runs near the road. Many were caught by surprise last time and were not prepared to prevent their homes and businesses from flooding.
Since then, the City of Gulfport has asked owners of businesses to be prepared for flash floods. One local business owner tells News 25 efforts to keep a nearby creek clear of debris has helped. Flowers Forever Owner Michael Brusnon said, “The city came in about six weeks ago or seven weeks ago wanting to know if we would make sure the owners cleaned out the Flat Creek Branch, I believe it is called, back over here. In the last couple of weeks, they have been back there cleaning it out.”
The area did not flood with this most recent round of rain, but Brunson said they are more prepared than they were last year.
