Importance of bullet proof vests

Law enforcement officers encounter dangerous individuals in the line of duty almost daily so taking the proper safety precautions is a matter of life and death.
News 25 caught up with a former Air Force instructor about the importance of a bullet proof vest. David Willinger at Leon’s Army, Navy, and Outdoor Store explains that although the vests are not foolproof, the lives of a number of local and national officers have been saved by wearing them. “Normally what they wear most hand gun calibers will stop. They have a lot of protection from that, but now when you get to a hunting rifle then that’s probably not going to stop a hunting rifle, but with the small caliber handguns it would stop that. I have a firm belief in them and the police officers wearing them. I think that’s something that’s really good for them.”
An FBI study found that an officer who was not wearing a vest was 14 times more likely to be injured in the line of duty.
