IMMS releases turtle with satellite tracker

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- On Friday, there was another turtle release here on the Coast, but this time we were able to keep up with their underwater adventures.

Crowds packed the beach near Edgewater Mall in Biloxi as the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies held another release for rehabilitated turtles.

Kids from the IMMS summer camp cheered on two Kemps Ridley turtles as they made their way back to the water. The real star of the show was Lilac, a loggerhead turtle equipped with a satellite tracker, which will record her journey.

It is a part of an IMMS study to keep on top of how the turtles are faring out in the ocean and has researchers excited for what they’ll discover.

You can track the turtle’s journey on imms.org as well as stay up to date for future turtle releases.
