Ice Breaker Regatta at Ocean Springs Yacht Club

It’s time to set sail for the annual Ocean Springs Ice Breaker Regatta.

Thirty-eight sailboats started this competition today right when the weather was ready for sailing. People come from all over the country for this event.

The regatta consists of three days of intense buoy racing off the Ocean Springs Yacht Club beach mixed in with other activities at the club.

Organizers with the Yacht Club are excited for this first day of sailing and say there is a reason people keep coming back every year. Ocean Springs Yacht Club 2015 Commander Cynthia Moncreiff said, “One of the big factors is our location. We have this nice sandy beach to sail catamarans off of. The other big player is our hospitality. Mississippi, it’s what we do here and in Ocean Springs it’s what we do and Ocean Springs Yacht Club is the same way. The sailors just love to come here.”

This event is a Hobie class regatta so all of the competitors in this weekend’s races are classified under a Hobie class sailor. They will gain points here to compete in bigger regattas down the road.
