I-110 now OPEN to traffic
HATTIESBURG, MISS. – Based on new information received as part of the I-110 bridge repair plans, the Mississippi Department of Transportation is OPENING I-110 S to traffic.
Recent load ratings performed on the bridge definitively show that it is structurally sound to hold traffic and therefore open I-110 S. All southbound lanes of I-110 south of Bayview Ave. have been closed to traffic in Harrison County since a fire occurred under the bridge on Sept. 19.
Safety remains MDOT’s first priority as it moves through the repair process, and the agency has taken a conservative approach regarding public safety based on available information and data.
MDOT recently received a set of plans to perform the repair from a contracted engineering firm which included load ratings. An emergency letting process is expected to begin this week in order to select a contractor to perform the repairs.
Upon successful selection and approval from the Mississippi Transportation Commission, MDOT will immediately issue a Notice to Proceed, and the contractor will begin work.
Repair work is anticipated to last approximately one month, depending on weather conditions, availability of materials and site conditions. While repair work is ongoing, traffic should be minimally impacted.
MDOT will update the public on I-110 bridge repairs as work progresses and more information becomes available.
