I-10 Construction update: All lanes set to open in a few days

If you’ve traveled across the Tchoutacabouffa River bridge on I-10 you’ve probably run into some heavy traffic congestion.

This is due to a work zone for bridge repairs, but good news is on the horizon as all six traffic lanes will reopen in a couple of days.

The project currently takes up an entire lane of both sides of the bridge, condensing traffic into two lanes causing congestion and even accidents.

The zone merges lanes together quickly and to increase safety, the Department of Transportation closed the Cedar Lake exit. Katey Roh Hornsby with MDOT said, “We will change all of our work to go under the bridge. So, traffic will go back to normal, but that doesn’t mean the work is done. It’ll just shift under the bridge. We just want to remind people this area is still a work area. There are still workers, but you won’t see them and traffic won’t be affected by it.”

The entire bridge preservation project will be complete by the beginning of next year. The project will increase the life expectancy of the bridge.
