HWY 49 railroad crossings to close for repairs
Get ready for a big disruption to your drive. MDOT has announced the railroad crossing just south of Interstate 10 near Creosote Road and the entrance to Gulfport Premium Outlets will be closing for repairs.
The northbound lanes of Highway 49 will close starting this coming Sunday night at 10 and will stay closed for up to a week. During that time, all northbound traffic will be rerouted.
Immediately after that, the southbound lanes of Highway 49 at the tracks will close for up to five days which will also close the southbound Highway 49 exits off I-10.
Once that’s complete, all lanes of Highway 49 will be closed for two days to replace the tracks. MDOT District Engineer Kelly Castleberry said, “Motorists are going to probably see some very, very heavy congestion. They’re going to be stuck in traffic. It’s just the nature of it. So, if you can avoid that area, especially for the next two weeks, once this closure goes up. We would suggest motorists find an alternate route because it is going to be very congested.”
According to Kansas City Southern Railroad, all work should be finished by November 5th. Look for detour signs starting Sunday night.
