Hurricane Sally preparations across Mississippi

Preparations are underway in Mississippi as Hurricane Sally bears down on the Gulf Coast.

Crews were seen throughout the day on Monday using bulldozers to build a barrier along several beaches in Bay St. Louis.

In Kiln, some residents are evacuating as waters begin to rise ahead of Hurricane Sally. One resident explains his reason for leaving. Kiln Resident Michael ‘Mac’ McLaughlin said, “It would be dumb to stay here. I think 110-mile-an-hour winds – even though my house, you know, was kind of hurricane-proof with all the new type of strapping and all that kind of.  It was built in ’14. So, the guys that built it really did a good job, but I just don’t want to be here when the water’s that deep and be stranded. That wouldn’t be smart.”

The storm could bring with it unexpected power outages and a significant surge along low lying areas.

Hurricane warnings are in effect from Morgan City in South Central Louisiana to the Alabama-Florida state line.
