Huntington Learning Center’s Teacher of the Month: Escatawpa Upper Elementary’s Nedra McGee

ESCATAWPA, Miss (WXXV) — Every month, WXXV teams up with Huntington Learning Center to honor a deserving teacher in South Mississippi.

April’s outstanding educator is Nedra McGee, a special education teacher at Escatawpa Upper Elementary who has spent decades teaching at every grade level.

McGee was nominated by Alexis Ashford, who highlighted her determination and loving nature.

“Mrs. McGee teaches a self-contained special education class at the upper elementary,” Ashford said in her nomination. “She has students with multiple disabilities and different special needs. She cares about her students and encourages them to excel in their everyday learning despite their special education needs. On any given day, you will find her and her students fully engaged in academic and social learning. The students are held to a very high standard when it comes to academic achievement.”

WXXV News 25’s Elizabeth Keen caught up with McGee after she was surprised with the honor.
