Huntington Learning Center’s October Teacher of the Month: Thomas L. Reeves Elementary School’s Kelly Cassibry

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) — Every month, WXXV and Huntington Learning Center team up to honor one deserving South Mississippi educator.

October’s Teacher of the Month is Kelly Cassibry, a 2nd and 3rd grade Gifted Education “Discovery” teacher at Thomas L. Reeves Elementary School in Long Beach. Cassibry has been an integral part of the school for 26 years and loves hearing from her former students as they grow up! She was nominated by her colleague and friend, Dana Wedgeworth.

“My friend, Kelly Cassibry, should be chosen as Teacher of the Month because of her dedication to her students,” Wedgeworth wrote in her nomination. “She goes the extra mile to create innovative lessons that are fun and engaging for her students. She is respected by her peers. Other teachers look to her for innovative strategies because of her reputation and humble collaborative spirit. She models qualities that students and teachers benefit from such as kindness, patience and integrity in every situation. She’s a behind-the-scenes educator who gives tirelessly to the profession because of her passion for teaching. Teaching gifted education can sometimes feel like reinventing the wheel. Kelly is a true problem solver. Her dedication, positivity and passion for teaching really shine through every day to her students as well as other teachers. She inspires students intellectually and more importantly, personally.”

WXXV News 25’s Elizabeth Keen met with Cassibry to discuss her teaching journey as she was presented with the award.
