Hundreds of wrestlers compete for individual titles at South State Wrestling Tournament
VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WXXV) — South Mississippi high school wrestling teams continued their seasons on Saturday at the Individual South State Tournament.
Hundreds of wrestlers from schools all across South and Central Mississippi competed across 14 weight classes, with a trip to the Individual State Championship on the line.
As wrestlers moved through brackets of competition, the best of the best earned their South State titles. Ultimately, the top eight finishers in each weight class will compete for the title next weekend in Jackson.
Individual scores added up to determine team winners. On the boys side, Vancleave won the South State title, Picayune finished second and Oak Grove out of Hattiesburg finished third.
On the girls side, Ocean Springs won the team title, Oak Grove came in second and St. Martin finished third.
