Humane Society of South Mississippi received check from Petco

Thanks to Petco, the Humane Society of South Mississippi will be able to help owners keep their pets healthy and reduce the number of animals that are surrendered.

Today, Petco presented a $400,000 check to the Humane Society of South Mississippi to support its ‘Value the Vulnerable to Victory’ program.

This program provides pop-up animal wellness resource fairs where lower income communities can received education, wellness and spay and neuter services for their pets, all free of charge. Katie King with the Humane Society of South Mississippi said, “We see a lot of pets being surrendered into the shelter because their families unfortunately can’t take care of them or they don’t have the resources that they need or the pets coming into the shelter are already sick with disease because they haven’t been vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered. So with these pop-up clinics we are able to go out in the community and offer these services free of charge to the low income areas and just give back to the community.”

The next pop-up animal wellness resource fair will be held at the Humane Society of South Mississippi on December 7th from 8 a.m. to noon.
