Humane Society kicks off Empty the Shelter campaign

If you are thinking about adopting a pet, July is the perfect time to bring home a furry friend.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi is on a mission to empty the shelter.

They are discounting adoption fees for all pets through the end of July.

Volunteer coordinator Cece Collins says the goal of the project is to help pets find loving homes.

“Empty the Shelter is a nationwide project put on by Bissel Pet Foundation to empty our shelters to get lots of our dogs adopted. So our adoption fees for all of our animals over five months old are fifteen dollars excluding our pay it forward pets,” Collins said. “The fifteen dollar adoption fee includes the spay or neuter, the microchip, up to date vaccines, a starter bag of food, and a free vet visit up to 7 days of your adoption.”

The Humane Society has pets of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments.

The pets currently at the shelter range from 2 months old to around ten years old.

Empty the Shelter will take place at more than 335 facilities in 44 states with spayed/neutered, vaccinated pets available for adoption for $50 or less.

Employees at the Humane Society say older dogs have a more difficult time finding loving homes.
