Human Skeletal Remains Discovered in D’Iberville

Human skeletal remains were found in a wooded area off of Mallet Road in D’Iberville, prompting police to scour the scene after getting the call just before 2 o’clock this afternoon. Investigators and the Harrison County coroner are in the process of trying to figure out who they belong to and how they got there.
Exactly one week ago, skeletal remains were found in a wooded area in Gulfport. Today, more remains were discovered but this time in D’Iberville. Tobias Anderson, a veterinary technician at Lakeview Animal Hospital, said, “I saw a group of policemen taking photos, seemed to be a crime scene investigation or something of that sort. I was very curious to know what was going on since I work right here by the scene.”
The D’Iberville Police Department received a call about possible skeletal remains in a wooded area around 1:42 this afternoon. D’Iberville Chief of Police Wayne Payne said, “When we got here, we went up into the woods. There was a tent there and there were skeletal remains in the tent.”
The Harrison County Coroner’s Office and the D’Iberville Police Department were both on the scene searching high and low for answers. Investigators were in and out of the wooded area for hours trying to gather as much information and evidence as possible before sending it to Jackson.
Together units confirmed that the remains found were those of a human adult. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said, “Whether it’s male or female will be determined from the crime lab, from the state ME’s office. Once they do that then we can move forward from there.”
While the remains are sent to Jackson for further examination and identification, the Harrison County Coroner’s Office and the D’iberville Police Department continue to investigate exactly where these bones came from.
“It’s pretty shocking,” said Anderson, “Since it’s close to me and where I work and everything. You see a lot of people walking around, so I have to stay on my p’s and q’s now I feel like.”
