Human remains found in George County community

Human remains were discovered Saturday in the Basin community in George County.

The exact location of where the remains were found still has yet to be released but the George County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the remains were discovered close to River Road in a wooded area in the Basin community. The Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that the remains were skeletonized and they are currently waiting to hear back from the coroner’s office for a positive identity on the deceased.

“Whenever I heard about it I was very surprised. You know nothing bad ever really happens in a small town like this but whenever I heard I was very upset about, because you know that don’t really ever happen so its very surprising,” said one Basin community resident, Carly.

Investigation into the discovery is still ongoing but we’ll keep you updated with any further developments.
