HSSM offers tips to help protect pets from fireworks
The Humane Society of South Mississippi is raising awareness about pet safety leading up to the 4th of July holiday.
Fireworks, loud noises, and unfamiliar crowds can pose significant risks to our pets.
The loud noises from fireworks can cause extreme anxiety and fear, causing them to try to escape from their homes, potentially leading to injuries or getting lost.
Katie King, HSSM development director, offers some helpful tips to minimize your pets distress. “It makes a lot of pets nervous so what you can do when you have your pets indoors is keep them distracted. You can turn on the tv or you can play some relaxing music make sure you have their toys out and handy, some bones, treats anything to keep them busy so they’re not getting nervous by the loud noises.”
Katie also encourages everyone to get their fur baby microchipped and make sure the information stays up to date.
