How to get involved this National Hunger and Homelessness Week
This week is National Hunger and Homelessness Week.
Here’s everything Back Bay Mission has coming up that you can get involved in.
November 14 at 5 P.M. locals are invited to a town hall discussion about homelessness at Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi.
This will be a discussion about a variety of topics– including Back Bay Mission’s new plan for transitional housing.
Back Bay Mission will be hosting a food drive all week, and they are accepting some special Thanksgiving-themed items.
Finally, on Thursday, November 16, the Hard Rock will be providing a Thanksgiving meal from 11:30 A.M. To 1:30 P.M.
The holidays really amplify the growing need on the coast, with 500 people coming through the pantry a month, and this holiday season your gift can change a life.
“Statistically, one in four children are hungry each night, and I think those statistics are probably higher. Each night one in four children goes to bed hungry, and we’ve got families we know living on the edge that are probably going hungry in the evening,” said Back Bay Mission Executive Director James Pennington, “People want to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner. They want to have all the trimmings. And that’s certainly costly and it’s more costly now than it has been in the past.”
You can also drop off food-drive donations at Northrop Grumman in Ocean Springs until November 16 for a chance to win a Ninja Kitchen system 7-speed blender.
If you shop at Food Giant in Biloxi, they will donate a bag of food to the pantry.
