How TikTok’s ban will affect small business owners
With TikTok facing a ban, many people don’t realize it’s more than an entertainment platform. For some business owners, it’s a vital marketing tool, and for their customers, it’s a key way to discover and access useful products,
WXXV 25’s Jordyn Lassiter met with Jessie Whittington, owner of Country Lather Soap Works, who runs her business on TikTok. Whittington says this ban could affect her livelihood and the way her business performs. “90% of my sales come from TikTok,” says Whittington.
Jennifer Johnson, a devoted customer of Country Lather Soap Works, discovered the business through TikTok. She credits the platform with helping her uncover hidden gems in her community and supporting local small businesses. Johnson says Without TikTok the incredible growth and support of these small businesses might never have been possible.
Now, the platform’s future is uncertain, leaving many business owners and creators concerned about what’s to come. Whittington says she uses Instagram and Facebook, but it doesn’t have the same algorithm that TikTok does.
Many business owners and creators are left clueless on what their next steps will be if TikTok does permanently get banned in the United States.
