Houston Nutt files lawsuit against Ole Miss
The plot thickens for the Ole Miss football program in the midst of the NCAA’s ongoing investigation. Today, former Rebels Coach Houston Nutt filed a lawsuit against his former employer one day before they were scheduled to speak at SEC Media Days.
According to reports, Nutt filed his case against the university and its athletic foundation in federal court, alleging a violation of his 2011 severance agreement with Ole Miss by current football coach Hugh Freeze and Athletic Director Ross Bjork.
Nutt claims they, as well as other school officials, created a false public narrative to shift the primary blame of the NCAA inquiry from Freeze to Nutt. Ole Miss has been under investigation for nearly five years, aligning with Freeze’s tenure in Oxford and after Nutt’s stint from 2008-2011.
The Rebels have already self-imposed a post-season ban for 2017, but they’re still fighting the lack of institutional control charge. Freeze is also facing allegations for a failure to monitor.
Now Freeze will have a lot of questions to answer when he takes the podium tomorrow for the final day of SEC Media Days. Along with him will be o-lineman Javon Patterson, quarterback Shea Patterson, and defensive tackle Breeland Speaks.
Auburn and South Carolina will help close things out from Hoover.
