Hotel accommodations for Hurricane Michael evacuees

Hotels along the Mississippi Gulf Coast are filling up fast with evacuees from Hurricane Michael.

The evacuees seem to be in good spirits as hotel rates are fair. Some are even waiving pet fees to accommodate those with pets.

Executive Director of Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association Linda Hornsby tells News 25 the phones have not stopped ringing for hotels in Biloxi. There are still rooms available at some hotels.

Although Florida residents are worried about the damage from Hurricane Michael, they are pleased with the accommodations made by hotels on the Coast. The Hyatt Place General Manager Carlos Borden said, “We are just trying to help out. We know these circumstances are really unfortunate right now. We are doing our best to help them out.”

Evacuee Paul Lackie said, “I think in this hotel right now there’s two to one dogs to humans in this hotel which is very unusual, but they have done a great job.”

Evacuee Kristin Taner said, “They have just been very accommodating. It’s just been a great experience. When you are out of your home it is nice to have a nice place to come especially with our pets.”

Some of the evacuees are unaware of when they will be able to return back home.
