Hospitalizations due to COVID continue to climb

Singing River Health System had 128 people hospitalized with COVID, the hospital CEO said, and 119 of those were not vaccinated.

The numbers continue to climb in Mississippi. Of those hospitalized at SRHS, 28 are in ICU and 21 of them are on ventilators, said Lee Bond.

Memorial Hospital, on its social media sites, reported 71 hospitalized for COVID, with 90 percent of them not vaccinated. Of those 71, 12 were in ICU and 8 of those were on ventilators.

Statewide, 3,488 new cases and 36 deaths were reported in the state on Monday.

Meanwhile, the vaccination rates are not keeping pace. As of Monday morning, the 100% vaccination rate by county was:

  • Harrison County — 30%
  • Hancock County — 24%
  • Jackson County — 29%
  • George County — 25%
  • Pearl River County — 23%
  • Stone County — 28%

Vaccination events continue to be scheduled to allow residents to be vaccinated for free. Singing River Health System offered these vaccination sites this week:
