Hospice of Light honors those who have passed at annual Tree Planting
In observance of National Hospice Month, Singing River Hospice of Light hosts remembrance ceremonies to honor loved ones lost in the past year.
Hospice of Light’s annual tree planting looks a little different this year because of the rain, but that didn’t stop people from honoring their loved ones at Singing River Hospital.
Hospice of Light honors those who received end-of-life care from them by planting a tree each year.
Families and friends are invited to assist in the planting by writing their loved one’s name on paper and burying it in the soil.
Eventually, the paper will biodegrade and become nutrients for the tree to grow.
Dr. Randy Roth tells us these loved ones have contributed to the life of this magnolia tree. “Families bring their loved ones name tags into the tree, put dirt on that, symbolizing that this tree is going to grow. Their loved one will be a part of that tree’s root system and leaves. They can come by every year and sit and reflect on that because the tree will be planted right outside of this building.”
