Hooters Closing Biloxi Location

It’s your last chance to visit the Hooters in Biloxi. The local restaurant closes business this Friday. News 25’s Gina Tomlinson spoke with management to find out why.
Hooters general manager Peter Meleones points to a picture of the original Hooters girls of Biloxi, he tells News 25 this Hooters was the first casual dining restaurant to rebuild after Katrina. One could call it a mark in history for the Coast, but this Friday the doors will shut for good. “There’s a restaurant boom going on right now and the pie is being sliced up a lot thinner. We’ve got a store in Gulfport and I think that the community would support one Hooters instead of two,” said Meleones.
The restaurant was once a hot spot for business but has recently dwindled with the addition of several beach side eateries popping up along Restaurant Row. Twenty five employees were notified this morning that they will have to say goodbye to their workplace.
Meleones says it’s getting a little too crowded for eateries to thrive in Biloxi. “My opinion is we need more hotel rooms and more tourists to come in here.”
While this week may be your last time to sign your bill at Hooters in Biloxi, the move opens the doors for other locations like the one in Gulfport, doors that were already swinging in the first place. “The number one thing that we offer that these other restaurants don’t offer, we have the Hooters girls and everyone loves the Hooters girls. They’re what make our restaurant different,” said Meleones.
The GM tells News 25 business is nice and healthy for both Hattiesburg and Gulfport. Biloxi Hooters employees are welcome to work at either one.
For the future of the building in Biloxi, Wintzell’s Seafood will move in, the New Orleans style venue also shares ownership with Slap Ya Mama’s BBQ.
