Hood Puts $34.4 Million Into General Fund

As budget writers try to stretch Mississippi’s cash to cover needs, State Attorney General Jim Hood chips in 34-point-four million dollars.

The Democratic Attorney General says he deposited the winnings from lawsuits into the state’s general fund.
Hood wants lawmakers to give seven-point-four million to the mental health department to re-open a drug and alcohol treatment unit at the Mississippi state hospital at Whitfield.
Lawmakers are finalizing plans for the budget year that will begin July first.
They also must cover deficits incurred this year.
