Homeless man charged with attempted murder in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A homeless Vancleave man is charged with attempted murder in Jackson County.

The man, identified as 21-year-old Austin Manry, allegedly assaulted another man on Monday, May 19.

Sheriff John Ledbetter says when deputies arrived to the scene in the St. Andrew community, they found the 39-year-old victim unconscious in the backyard.

Witnesses told investigators that Manry assaulted the victim in an unprovoked attack. Sheriff Ledbetter went on to say that Manry tried to drive off, but crashed the car. He was treated for injuries and taken to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.

The victim was life flighted to USA Medical Center in Mobile.

Manry is also charged with resisting arrest and simple assault on a law enforcement officer. He is being held without bond awaiting an initial court hearing.
