Home Grown Who Dats (Part 2)
The Saintsations’ main focus is to dance on the sidelines of the Saints football games, but off the field, they are involved in a variety of charity events, competitions, and public appearances. Whether it’s on the Steve Harvey Show or participating in the A.L.S. ice bucket challenge, these ladies are out in the community giving back. Sarah, a Saintsation, says, “The women that I’m on the team with, they’re just awesome role models, and in the community, we just come out and we support breast cancer survivors, and with our junior Saintsations program, and giving back to little kids."
In the process, they’re learning how to be leaders. Lesslee Fitzmorris, Director of the Saintsations, says, "They learn skills in business, in how to present, how to speak to people they don’t know, because it’s not just about dancing on the field. They all love to dance, but it’s about representing the Saints Nation at events in their community."
During these events, the dancers develop life-long friendships. Mary, another Saintsation, says, "The most rewarding part of being a Saintsation is that you have 35 sisters and a second mother. So it’s just a huge family away from home."
The Mississippi Coast girls really get to know each other, carpooling back and forth to practice each week, and while they’re developing friendships among each other, hundreds of young Saints fans and junior Saintsations are looking up to these ladies, hoping to one day dance on the sidelines themselves.
Fitzmorris closes, "My job is to put out a product of young girls that my daughter can look up to, and that’s what I want for the community. We don’t show a lot and we’re very conservative, you know, and I feel an obligation to the young girls and the mothers out there and I think that’s what these girls represent."
The Saintsations prove on the field and off they are much more than just pretty faces.
