Hockey returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast
For the first time in seven years, hockey is officially returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
This afternoon, Biloxi Pro Hockey held a press conference announcing three regular season neutral site games in December played by Single A teams in the Federal Prospects Hockey League.
Seawolves and Surge fans from years past packed the south side of the stands, which bodes well for the future of the sport in South Mississippi.
If those games draw large enough turnouts, officials are looking at Biloxi as a potential location for an expansion team inspired by everyone’s hometown favorites. Biloxi Pro Hockey Chief Operating Officer Joe Pace said, “The hopes would be to start in the beginning of the 2022-23 season, and the goal is to have that team be the Seawolves. We know if we did a name the team contest, we know who’s winning. We know who everyone wants back, and it’s the Seawolves. So even if the logo has to be tweaked, we know that because of trademarking and things like that, but as we know we had Hook with us today. There’s more Seawolves jerseys in the stands than anything else. We know what everyone wants back, and we’re not blind or stupid to it. We know that and we want to help that and that’s the tradition that we want to continue.”
Tickets for the games on December 2nd, 17th, and 30th are already on sale at the Coast Coliseum box office.
