Hit and run leaves traffic backed up on HWY 49

Traffic was backed up for nearly a mile this afternoon along Highway 49 after a hit-and-run at the intersection of Highway 53 in Harrison County.

Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt says police were called to the scene after hearing of a potential hit-and-run, Chief Beyerstedt tells News 25 that the suspect is in custody.

One person was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
