Historical figures come back to life for Live Oak Cemetery Tours

On Friday, Pass Christian took a step back into the past as it hosted the Live Oak Cemetery Tours, giving attendees a glimpse into the lives of those who shaped Pass Christian throughout history.

Spectators followed a designated path through the oaks and headstones of the the cemetery and were greeted by actors portraying as historical figures from different eras in Pass Christian history. For many spectators the lively performances of the actors was great way to delve into the past, as well as see the community unite to celebrate the history of the city.

“There aren’t too many things when you think of it, that really ignite much passion when it comes to history. But to see a broad cross section of our community get very interested in a very historical evening, that’s a great thing,” said Ernest Burdette, an attendee of the cemetery tour.

Even the actors themselves saw this as a chance to learn something new as they immersed themselves into the city’s forebearers.

“I’ve learned so much. History is wonderful, and we all should be learning history and we should all be absorbing history. I don’t think we do that, perhaps, as much as we should,” said Cecile Tebo, an actor for the Live Oak Cemetery Tour.

The Live Oak Cemetery Tours will continue on Saturday, November 9th.
