Historic Lovelace oak tree removed in Ocean Springs
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- The historic Lovelace oak tree has been removed in Downtown Ocean Springs.
The tree was located at the intersection of Government Street and Washington Avenue.
Elected officials say upon further inspection, it was clear the tree was completely rotten on the inside.
Those officials saying the condition created a safety concern for residents, visitors, and property.
Sidewalk repairs are also going to be made in the area.
Once those are finished, a new oak tree will be planted so future generations can enjoy the beauty of the city.
