Hispanic Heritage Month at Pass Road Elementary
It was an all-out fiesta at Pass Road Elementary as students celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Over 400 kids spent their lunch playing games and eating tacos, while a group of ESL students from Gulfport High performed Hispanic dances. Artifacts and different aspects of Hispanic culture were also showcased in the cafeteria.
Pass Road Elementary Principal Simone Fairley tells News 25 this celebration teaches the students at a young age to embrace difference cultures. “It helps us with inclusiveness. You know, at a time when people are concerned about other cultures, if we showcase it in a positive way and make people feel welcome I think we’ll all be better off.”
Parents also came into the school to enjoy the celebration. The second graders will be performing Hispanic songs tonight at six at the school. It is free and open to the public.
