UPDATE: Highway 26 bridge in George County reopens after crash damage Tuesday

A deadly Tuesday morning crashed forced the closure of the Hwy 26 bridge over the Pascagoula River in George County due to structural issues (MHP Troop K)

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — UPDATE: 1:01 PM Tuesday, October 6: The Highway 26 bridge over the Pascagoula River in George County has reopened to traffic after inspection by MDOT engineers. 

The Highway 26 bridge at the Pascagoula River in George County was closed for hours Tuesday after a deadly crash caused structural damage to the bridge.

 Mississippi Highway Patrol officials tell WXXV one person died in the crash and one person was injured.

Structural engineers with the Mississippi Department of Transportation found that it was safe to reopen the bridge after a thorough inspection.
