High School Students Learn About Energy Industry
Mississippi Power sponsored the event as part of Black Energy Awareness Month, which provides students with an interactive environment and allows them to broaden their knowledge about the energy industry and new technologies. Monday’s speakers addressed the students on career opportunities and available scholarships in the energy field. The students were challenged to build the tallest tower out of paper and sticks for prizes and school pride.
Frank Magee, economic developer, says, “It’s all about exposure and letting these kids know there are opportunities, in fact, right here in their own backyard, so trying to give them some motivation as they finish their high school studies and start looking at their workforce, start looking at their secondary education, to just look at the opportunities that are available, so today’s just been a day of inspiration and exposure.”
Nine different Coastal schools participated in the event.
