High School Boys Basketball: Gulfport Hardwood Holiday Classic

No matter what you’re in the mood for, the 35th annual Gulfport Hardwood Holiday Classic has plenty of home cooking. Although the Admirals didn’t make the cut for tonight’s championship game, both sidelines featured head coaches that used to play for Gulfport back in the day.
Harrison Central’s Boo Hardy and Pascagoula’s Lorenzo Wright both going for the same thing at their old stomping grounds.
Harrison Central goes on to win the title game over Pascagoula by the final count of 70-69. Perkins was named tournament MVP.
In the third place game, Gulfport defends home court, taking down Brother Martin out of New Orleans 74-67. Admirals go into the New Year on a high note. Harrison Central up next.
On the other side of the bracket, Picayune wins its first game of the tournament, knocking off Long Beach 43-40.
Another close one between Laurel and Oak Grove with the former coming out on top 55-45.
Here’s Gulfport Head Coach Owen Miller on the strength of this year’s field. “Yeah, it’s an outstanding tournament. Us and Harrison Central had a great game last night. They pulled the win out and you’ve got two outstanding teams Harrison Central and Pascagoula. Both teams are very good, experienced teams, well coached and the winner of this will have a chance to make a run come March.”
The last time Gulfport won the tournament was 2014 which was also the last season the Admirals took home the 6A state crown.
