Help Out Audubon Center by Counting Birds in Your Yard

The Pascagoula River Audubon Center wants you to become a citizen scientist.

The center is announcing their 18th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count. It’s an opportunity for citizens to participate in helping the Audubon Institute and scientists answer more questions about birds in winter. They encourage locals to go out in their backyards and report birds they see. The bird count will last February 13th through the 16th and there will be weekend workshops at the Audubon Center leading up to the count that demonstrate exactly how to participate.

Mark Lasalle, Director of the Pascagoula River Audubon Center, says, "In the winter time, when everything sort of stops moving, the migration is over, birds that are visiting us in winter are here, and other birds are where they want to sit for a while, we can take a snapshot of birds throughout North America. So it’s a great opportunity for all the citizens to help us count birds in their backyards, in their school yards, and communities so we can get a good census of birds in winter."
